Identification:The Arctic hare has elongated and curved claws on the forefeet. They have a white winter coat with black ear tips. In the summer their coat color becomes brownish gray.
Habitat:Tundra, mountains, lowlands
Diet:Herbivore: woody plants, berries, leaves, sedges, seabark
Reproduction:Adult hares mate in April or May and the young are born in May, June, or July. Most females have two litters each season with 2-8 young in each litter. The mother weans her offspring at 8-9 weeks after birth. By September, they have reached adult Status.
Social Structure:Although Arctic hares are generally solitary, they can gather in groups of 100-300 animals during the winter.
Behavior:This lagomorph species is nocturnal and active throughout the year.
