Identification: The spots on the flanks are mostly round and not much higher than they are wide. Belly pigmentation towards the rear is more limited to indistinct blotches found on pairs of adjacent scales.[3]Juveniles have a color pattern that is similar to the adults, although it may be paler or more vividly marked, and the tip of the tail is yellow.
Habitat: flatwoods, sandhills, mixed forests, floodplains, and is also found near lakes and marshes
Diet: Omnivore: small mammals and birds, lizards, insects and frogs, as well as other snakes
Reproduction: Adult females of S. m. barbouri give birth to between 5 and 7 young at a time. In a brood of 8 from Silver Springs, Marion County, Florida, each neonate measured between 157 and 173 mm (6.2 and 6.8 in) in total length
Behavior: the summer sunning itself or crossing the road later in the day. The tiny rattle makes a buzzing sound that can only be heard from a few feet.
Interesting Facts: This may be a Mexican dusky rattlesnake but has not been concretely identified.
