Feather Tail Glider

Introduction

Head-Body Length: 65-80 mm
Weight: 10-14 g
Identification:Some distinguishing characteristics of the feathertail glider include a light blue-gray color, short fur on the top and bottom of the tail, longer hairs on the sides of the tail, and a gliding membrane that stretches from the elbows to the knees.
Habitat: Forests, woodlands
Diet: Omnivore: nectar, pollen, insects
Reproduction: The exact timing of breeding depends on a population’s location. Not all of the females within a group will breed at the same time. A female can have two litters per year with 3-4 young in each litter. The young remain in the mother’s pouch for 65 days and are weaned at 100 days of age. Females can become pregnant again immediately after giving birth.
Behavior: Feathertail gliders are nocturnal unless they are rearing young.
Status: No special status

Interesting-Facts: The toes have very sharp claws and serrated pads to help with tree climbing. Populations of feathertail gliders require areas of dense vegetation for predator protection, nest sites, etc.
