Introduction

Head-Body Length:   28 cm
Identification:The tokay gecko is gray with brownish-red to red spots. The male is more brightly colored. The toes have fine bristles used for gripping.
Habitat: In or near houses, tropical rain forests
Diet: Carnivore: insects, young lizards, mice, small birds
Reproduction:The breeding season is 4-5 months long. Eight to ten females will often lay their eggs in a cluster together, each lizard laying two eggs.
Social Structure:  Tokay geckos are solitary.

Behavior:This lizard species is nocturnal and arboreal. If threatened, they will cast off their tails and escape as the predator attacks the tail.
Interesting Facts:Some cultures believe that tokay geckos bring good luck to a person’s home. They have a third eye, called the pineal eye, on the top of their head that can sense light and dark. After losing their tails, a new one grows back in three weeks.
